How does the pandemic affect your mental health and everyday life?

Mental Health

After Covid

Although many countries are back to relative normality after Covid close to the surface there are still major issues the pandemic has left behind. This means that many people still continue to experience both physical and emotional difficulties from Covid.

There are 3 words that I write on the initial notes for virtually every client’s first session.

AM I SAFE?”

From both a physical and mental viewpoint Covid has left us all feeling unsafe

If you are still experiencing these sort of issues and find that you have not found a way forward emotionally or mentally I offer a healing protocol using Hypnosis, Emotional Freedom Technique and Eye Movement Therapy plus working with the Vagus Nerve (which is of prime importance in the healing process). I have been using these techniques for many years now with excellent success and offer clients on a daily basis the tools and strategies that they can begin to use to help turn their lives round.

Hypnosis has many facets of healing body and mind and a major one is helping us learn to relax again. If we cannot relax then the body cannot heal since it is using all its energy to keep us safe. Hypnosis will encourage the healing response through deep relaxation

Emotional Freedom Technique is now a very popular healing technique that my clients always love to use. Here we literally gently tap on acupressure points helping the body and mind release inner tension both physically and mentally. This helps us stabilise our emotions and release blocked energy stored in the body.

Eye movement Therapy has been available for many years now but it is only relatively recently that research has been done showing how our eye movements hold so much valuable information past and present.

The Vagus Nerve is another area that only relatively recently has been shown to have a much more profound effect on our body and mind than was originally thought. Using the latest scientific information we can make amazingly powerful changes to our lives using the simplest of techniques that will naturally help engage more healing and healthy experiences for our everyday lives.

Covid, Hypnotherapy and Health Anxiety

Since Covid spread around the world Health Anxiety is probably even more prevalent than ever before. However obsessive worrying about one’s health is nothing new and nothing unusual.

But it can easily turn into an obsession that takes over one’s life. Continuously checking Google, worrying, looking for confirmation from friends, if these habits and more are taking over your life then it may be time to take a step back and ask Health Anxiety

yourself if you are not becoming obsessed with your health in an unhealthy way.

Of course it is important that our first step is to get good medical advice and look after ourselves physically and emotionally. Unfortunately continuous worrying about one’s physical health for no apparent reason is not going to help our mental health. This worry will negatively impact both our mental and physical health and it will certainly diminish the pleasure of our own life.

Bringing down the anxiety around this issue will actually enhance the body’s natural resources to keep healthy and to heal. It will also open the door to getting out of the negative loop we have made for ourselves.

How best to do this?

Hypnosis is renowned for it’s ability to help us relax deeply and rapidly. Being able to relax is of prime importance and hypnosis can be learned very quickly and effectively.

Hypnotherapy can give you the tools to help move your mind away from negative circular thinking very rapidly. It is also very effective in helping releasing any past material that may have contributed to this “not so merry go round” of obsessive thinking.

I also use Emotional Freedom Technique and EMDR which are powerful techniques in themselves to help clients release old thoughts and habits, bringing them back into a much more balanced way of thinking and feeling about things.

Don’t get stuck and overwhelmed with worry when you can take this issue back into your control far quicker than you may have imagined.

Find yourself an accredited hypnotherapist to help you turn this around.

How hypnosis can help Covid, Stress and anxiety

Stress and anxiety

As many of us thought when lock down started it would only be a matter of weeks before life would return to normal again. Unfortunately as we all know that was not the case and at the time of writing we are still in a state of not knowing whether things are getting better or worse.

What we will have noticed is how the stress of these restrictions, the changes in our everyday habits and lack of regular social interaction has taken a toll on our mental health.

Not that we may have particularly noticed it at first. It just creeps up on us and we don’t notice it eating away at our confidence, our self esteem and our relationship with ourselves and others.

It is in fact rewiring our brain and we don’t know it. So what can we do to protect our mental and physical health during these difficult times? One of the most important things in my opinion is to stimulate or tone the vagus nerve.

The vagus nerve connects right through the body from the base of the skull to the base of the spine. It affects so many important functions of the body and mind that it is surprising it has not been taken a lot of notice of until recently. It relaxes our voice, helps control our blood pressure and pulse rate, adjusts our breathing and gut function just to name a few examples. Pretty important I would say.

Now when the vagus nerve is functioning well, even if we have no idea what it is, we will be in a state of balance and relaxation emotionally and physically, whereas when it is out of sync we will be in a state of fear (Fight and Flight).

In lock down we are understandably sending out more messages of fear and worry and the vagus nerve will respond appropriately to the messages we send it. Even everybody walking around in masks will trigger it because we don’t see the face and our primal brain becomes worried whether we are safe.

Although the vagus nerve is controlling so many complex body responses the actual things we can do to help it and our lives run smoothly are in fact very simple.

Here are some simple suggestions that I use regularly and you can seamlessly add into your everyday life.

1/ Hum, whistle, sing. This stimulates the vagus nerve to send comfortable messages around the body. Even 2 minutes a day will make a difference and will probably become addictive after a few days.

2/ Meditation, Yoga, Hypnosis are all excellent ways to tone the vagus nerve.

3/ Simple stretching and yoga type exercises are very beneficial for mental and body health.

4/ Cold showers! Or just splashing cold water on the nape of your neck will engage the vagus nerve
in a good and stimulating way.

5/ Avoid too much social media and news. This can quickly put us back into the sense of danger and
we won’t even know why we feel so depressed.

6/ Go for a walk

See how simple that is! Give it a try and if you like those you can also try my 3 minute relaxation
video as well.

Just using a few of these tips will really help you now and in the future.
