The origins of the seven chakras probably began in India around 1500 to 500 BC. They relate to seven points in the body starting at the base of the spine and traveling to the crown of the head.
They are depicted as 7 whirling balls of energy located along a line starting at the base of the tailbone and ending just above the top of the head. Each chakra has its own colour and each chakra represents particular aspects of our physical, spiritual and mental well being.

The idea is that for us to be in our best mental and physical health each of the chakras should be balanced and in harmony with the body and mind, and with each other.
For instance, the Solar Plexus governs our need to feel empowered and in control. If we get a “punch in the gut” (solar plexus chakra) that takes not only our breath away but also our strength.
The throat represents communication and if this chakra is blocked by preconceptions that do not support us then we may be “swallowing” our own truth.
The crown chakra connects with our higher self but if we live all our life “in our head” we may never “touch the ground”.
Whichever way you view the chakras they certainly align with the basic emotions and instincts that we emotionally and physically experience on an everyday basis.
In hypnosis chakras can be very useful to use as a connection between our mental and emotional feelings in a way we can actually sense and visualise.
Also, EFT, Tapping or Emotional Freedom Technique fit very well with chakra work. The chakras can then be used as a simple metaphor that the unconscious can easily process. Tapping on the significant acupressure points to relieve stress or past emotions related to each chakra helps us let go of these blocks in our system.
Whether you are familiar with chakras, just interested or they are an important part of your belief system they are certainly very fascinating. Using them like this can simplify the connection with our feelings and emotions in a powerful way.
