How to really lose weight

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

I have been seeing more and more clients for weight loss in the past few months and in many cases I get good results in one or two sessions. If one is eating too many calories through old messages such as “clean your plate” or “there are starving people out there” it is usually fairly simple to change these types of patterns in our thinking.

However, as I mention on my website, eating disorders, whether bingeing, overeating, or anorexic behaviours generally have little to do with food and all to do with a desperate need to numb one’s emotions. The frightening emotions that are buried in the psyche may be just too painful to bring to consciousness so there needs to be some way of avoiding having to think about them. A part of you will then look for a behaviour that helps keep these feelings at bay. Clients can often feel worried that hypnosis will “make” them open up with all sorts of information that they are either not aware of or would rather keep to themselves. But our unconscious mind is there to protect us and is programmed to keep this sort of information safely where it is until we are mentally and emotionally ready to deal with it. What is more, an experienced therapist will only move at the rate a client feels safe and comfortable with.

Letting go of these unresolved feelings is so often key to reprogramming our relationship with food but there are many techniques at the therapist’s disposal that will allow this to be done in a safe and comfortable way, allowing the client to move at their own speed and within their own comfort zone.

If you find yourself forever “yoyo” dieting, repeating the same destructive patterns or eating to make yourself “feel better” then finding out how you can really resolve the issues behind the actions will most likely be the key to turning your life around.

Green Smoothie

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

Just been improving my healthy eating aims by incorporating the “green smoothie” into my diet. I must say it tastes a lot better than I had imagined and there is endless variation in ingredients so if you Google green smoothie you can find everything you need to know or go to

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFm9_6BTCHM and see how it is done. Some fans say that if you drink one a day for a month you could lose your taste for sweet foods. I will keep you posted!

Here is the recipe I used today:

2 Lettuce leaves – 1/2 a Banana- Stick of celery – a carrot – piece of cucumber – four strawberries and a couple of cups of orange juice all blended together.

A weight loss programme that makes sense?

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

This is a weight loss programme I found on the web. What impresses me about it is the sheer simplicity and how obvious the method is. It is well worth reading in my opinion but always check with your Doctor about any methods you may be taking up to help you lose weight. Remember also that eating problems are often connected to other issues that may not be immediately apparent. If this is the case until these issues are resolved it is always going to be hard to make any programme stick.

Anyway, check this out Debramoorhead

What you consume

Aspartame is found in many products as a cheap alternative to natural sugar. The problem with Aspartame is it is thought to be a carcinogenic. It is said it can cause weight gain, headaches, lethargy and more. You may like to find out more about diet drinks containing any of these type of substitute sweeteners.  Try Dr Mercola’s article

Zen Story

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

One day a student went to his Master and said, “Master, I want to learn Enlightenment, how long will it take?” Without thinking too hard the Master replied, “Ten years”. The student went away to think about what he needed to do but came back the next day in a state of agitation. “Master” he said, “If I work every hour I can and practice every moment of every day to attain Enlightenment how long will it take then?” Once again the Master did not have to think too hard and turning to the student replied, “Twenty years.”
As with all Zen stories there are any number of possible meanings such as “just let things happen”, “trying too hard can make us get in our own way”,or even “as we learn more, so there is always more to learn.” Why not think of some meanings of your own?
I like to use this concept in my practice for weight loss because that is something that we cannot and should not rush. Patience is of the essence. After all it takes time (and food of course) to put each extra pound on so we must allow ourselves time to lose each pound.

Take Action 2

Saturday, June 3rd, 2006

There is a Zen saying, “The study of Zen is not Zen”. Just as reading books on exercise will never get us fit so neither will reading books on diet ever make us lose weight. That is, not unless we act on them. Now as I mention on my web site, almost any diet can help us lose weight but it isn’t the diet it’s our intention that really makes the difference. So this is a bit of a follow-on from my last blog. Thinking about doing something and studying something is only the first step. The important step is taking action.
